Dual role for Herbert Schuch: first time as soloist and conductor

On Saturday, November 21, 2026, at 7:30 p.m., I will perform at the Kursaal building (König-Ludwig-I.-Saal) with the Bavarian Chamber Orchestra Bad Brückenau. I have a dual role in this concert: for the first time, I am taking on the roles of soloist and conductor at once.

Mozart's Piano Concerto in E-flat major, K. 271, opens the evening, followed by the Serenade, Op. 11, by the Swedish composer Dag Wirén. The program closes with Joseph Haydn's Symphony in D major, Hob. I:42.

For me, the dual role is an exciting challenge. I must keep my own playing in view while also leading the entire ensemble, which requires considerably more concentration and alertness. Music is first and foremost communication for me, and the gestural side of music has always fascinated me at the piano. This project now takes me to a place where gestures turn into sound in a new way. I communicate with the orchestra not through a baton but through eye contact, body language, and listening. This creates a partnership on equal footing. I gained my first experience as a conductor in a short course with Prof. Sebastian Tewinkel. Now I am eager to share my enthusiasm for music in this new way in concert.
